Focus Learning Academy to Partner with Nursing Program

Posted in News on February 6th, 2007 with Comments Off

Focus Learning Academy (FLA), a charter school that offers students a flexible alternative in earning their high school diploma, has developed a partnership with Uplift Learning Center, which offers training in the nursing field to central Ohio men and women. Uplift will help FLA graduates transition directly into their state tested nurse aide training (STNA) or phlebotomy program. By working closely with Uplift, FLA will be able to recommend applicable high school coursework to students and assist students in applying to the training program. Uplift also plans to develop a special payment plan option for FLA graduates to assist them in financing their training.

“We were very excited when Uplift proposed a partnership with the Focus Learning Academy. I hope this collaboration will motivate students to continue their education after graduating high school and to help them become more successful in the future,” commented Dr. Coletta Musick, Superintendent of FLA.

Uplift offers STNA training in a compact, 76-hour, 17-day program, with a final exam requirement. Uplift does not guarantee job placement but is covered by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), which seeks to increase employment, job retention and skill attainment.

Focus Learning Academy is a state-funded charter school which helps teens and young adults earn their high school diploma while preparing for the workforce. There are three locations in Columbus.
