About Us

Focus Schools are state-funded charter schools that help teens and young adults, ages 16 – 22, earn their high school diploma while preparing for the workforce or their aspirations of higher education.

There are three schools conveniently located in Columbus that combine high school academics, vocational curriculum, and college preparation too. The three schools are staffed with certified and highly qualified teachers that use online curriculum as a primary teaching tool that is complimented by core content pull out classes. This combination allows for one-on-one interaction with students, both in the classroom and in a lab setting. All courses offered meet the state standards.

Focus is FREE and our unique structure offers our students a choice in courses, accommodates self-paced studies and allows for students to earn a living while attending school and prepare for further education.

A Letter from the Superintendent

It is with great pride that I welcome you to the Focus family of schools. As you will see, we offer students ages 16-22 an opportunity to change their life and begin new dreams. Our program is specifically tailored to the individual needs of each person and simply stated, we will help each student find success and prepare for life.

When I first began to develop the academies, I knew that I wanted to create a safe, nurturing environment for all students. I wanted students to know that despite any problems, despite any previous bad decisions and despite how many times they’ve been told that they can’t succeed, the Focus learning Academy would welcome them with open arms and help them to be successful! I can confidently say that the staff of each Academy fulfills this mission of nurturing success for the individual student. We take a personal interest in every student who walks through our door!

There are many reasons to consider joining the Focus family. Traditional schools meet the needs of many students, allowing them to be successful. However, you or someone you know may not fit in to a traditional school model. Some people can’t succeed in the ‘one size fits all’ environment- the pace of learning may be too fast or too slow. Some people have children and can’t follow the time schedule. Some feel lost in the noise and confusion of crowded hallways and chaos filled classrooms. Some want to avoid distractions imposed by others which can create problems. Regardless of the reason, Focus is an option for any student who wants to graduate.

This site of course, is a mere snapshot of the personalities of the schools. To fully appreciate and embrace the warmth and caring atmosphere that we enjoy, I invite you to stop by one of the three sites and meet the people who can help you academically, vocationally and who can help you realize how important you are.
