Programs
Focus offers more than a dozen programs, groups, and activities for our students to participate in. With academic achievement programs, clubs and special interest groups, and community activities, we truly have something for everyone.

Coleeta Daycare
Focus North is the only high school in Columbus with an on-site daycare! If you’re a young parent and looking for both an education and quality child care, please consider Focus – it’s “Your Choice!”
Audubon Club
A major partnership between Focus and the Audubon Center that encourages students to learn about science through hands-on activities and research.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Events
Career and Technical Education (CTE) is the umbrella program for all career and technical education courses offered at Focus. CTE prepares students for life after graduating from Focus including workplace and postsecondary readiness.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Gives Back
Students and staff contribute new and unused items to create gift baskets for a male student, female student, staff member and a young parent, respectively. The baskets are then raffled off, which provides an opportunity for students and staff to brighten someone’s day via the act of giving.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Honor Society
Students who have completed 4 or more credits, which must include Career-Based Intervention and Keyboarding, will be eligible for the Honor Society. Students are honored during a luncheon where family is invited to attend and also during their respective graduations by wearing a special honor cord.
Cheer Squad
A cheerleading program that promotes health awareness and recreation with a major emphasis on fun, teamwork, and competitive sportsmanship. Cheerleaders perform at numerous athletic events, participate in fundraisers, community service projects, and sisterhood retreats throughout the duration of the cheering season.
Civic Association
The association works with local charities to raise money for worthwhile organizations and causes.
College Campus Visits
Junior and Senior students visit local and Ohio colleges to better understand their post graduate options..
Community Outreach
Our student and family advocate works with local agencies to provide resources and referrals to students and their families.
Dance Team
A group of young ladies, known as the Lady Eagles, who choreograph and perform their dance routines at school functions. They also participate in fundraisers to support their other extracurricular activities.
ESL Association
The association provides English as a Second Language support to students.
Father Factor
A group for young fathers to learn the art of being a nurturing parent.
Keeping It Real Tuesdays
A guest from the community speaks to the students about real life situations and how to overcome challenges.
Men’s Basketball
We offer an opportunity for our scholars to represent our school with pride, by becoming a student-athlete and playing for our traveling basketball team. By doing so, we promote positive interaction and provide scholars with the opportunity to be recognized for their accomplishments. We also have a intramural basketball league set up for the scholars who did not make the team. Our hope is that endeavors provide our students with something positive to do after school.
Pennies for Patients
Focus North Lady Eagles raise money for leukemia patients with the the support of faculty and staff.
Step Team
A program that fosters the acceptance and appreciation for diversity through various school performances, competitions, and community involvement. The primary objective is to encourage, enlighten, motivate and tap into the skills of students both artistically and creatively. Students are also encouraged to do their best academically and to gain a sense of community.

Focus East partners with the American Red Cross for a biannual Student and Staff Blood Drive, which encourage community awareness and the spirit of helping others through the act of donating blood.

Speakers from the community, colleges and universities are invited to speak with students about Setting Goals, Team Building, Manners, Money Management, Interviewing, Professional Dress Attire, Plans After High School, Top 10 Careers and Drug & Alcohol Abuse.
College Campus Visits
Students visit college and university campuses for tours and presentations to learn more about the academic programs offered. It’s a wonderful experience for students interested in attending college.
Columbus Health Department Partnership
A representative of the Health Department visits us several times a month to discuss subjects ranging from STD’s, Alcohol, Drugs and healthy dating relationships.

Our student and family advocate works with local agencies to provide resources and referrals to students and their families.

Girl’s Circle
For female students to discuss relevant issues in their life with other student mentors from the Ohio State University.
Huck House Partnership
Focus partners with the Huckleberry House Youth Outreach Team to provide additional support and crisis services to students at our school. They assist with housing, home life, employment searches, and crisis situations. See your social worker for a referral.
International Club
For students who are interested in learning about foreign cultures via videos, discussion, field trips, and food tastings.
L.E.A.D.S
A club for students to focus on Leadership, Experience, Ability, and Success. A recent successful endeavor was a book drive for the Millennium Community School.

OSU Social Work MSW Interns
We have partnered with The Ohio State University School of Social Work to develop and support student interns. We currently have two masters level social work students who are available to assist students in addressing any obstacles that impede their education. Through this partnership we are able to increase our connections and student support services.
Senior Seminars
Seniors meet with Career & Technical Education Instructors, Deans of Students, and other staff to receive individual assistance with creating a professional email account, completing college and university applications and finishing the FAFSA applications for financial aid.
Student Council
The Student Council at Focus builds leadership and community in our school through activities such as Prom, fundraising, and community service projects. Students have a voice and a way to create change in our school.

Columbus Museum of Art Internship
Several students are selected to promote the Columbus Museum of Art through the use of technology. These students learn computer skills, office technology, and multimedia technology. At the end of the internship the students use the aforementioned skills in a presentation about their experience.

School Library
Any student may borrow any of the 400+ books in the library for reading at school or at home. Students are encouraged to read books that interest them, with the hope that they’ll continue to broaden their horizons through reading.
School Social Worker
Available to meet with students to help them find resources and assistance in the community as well as help students deal with personal, family, and mental health issues.
Technology Team Grant
The technology team works with students on projects about topics that matter to their community, which include animal abuse, local artwork, litter, and the environment. The students have been working with digital cameras, iPads, Flip cameras, and computers to properly document their projects.
